Kidney disease and transplant options HealthLink is June 13

Reza Saidi, MD, chief of Upstate’s transplant program, will present on kidney transplantation June 13 at 6 p.m. at HealthLink (6333 Carrier Parkway, E. Syracuse) or online. Dr. Saidi will discuss how kidney transplantation can help those with chronic kidney disease and end-stage renal disease. A question/answer session will follow. Easy for You is June 13

Easy for You, Upstate's tobacco treatment program, will be held Tuesday, June 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Multidisciplinary Suite (C3068) on the third floor of Upstate Cancer Center. Those with an Upstate ID are welcome to receive help quitting tobacco, chew, and vape. Free nicotine replacement therapy is available. Center for Philosophy, Psychology and Psychiatry discussion is June 15

Upstate’s Center for Philosophy, Psychology and Psychiatry will host a discussion with Nassir Ghaemi, MD, June 15 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. via Zoom. Ghaemi will present The Philosophy and Psychiatry of Karl Jaspers. Ghaemi is professor of psychiatry at Tufts University. Changes set for access to TU3 and TU4 parking lot now through June 16

Access to the entrance to TU3 and TU4 parking lot off Madison Street is subject to changes now through June 16, depending on nearby construction. Flaggers on site will direct users to an alternate entrance, if necessary.

Retirement reception for Steve Harris is June 16

Upstate Trauma T-shirt sale is June 20

Upstate Trauma T-shirts will be available for purchase June 20 from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. outside Café 750 on the second floor of Upstate University Hospital. Shirts are $20 and will be available in crew and v-neck sizes S to 4XL. Cash, card, Apple/Google Pay will be accepted. There will be no holds.

The Syracuse Workforce Run will be held Tuesday, June 20 at 6:45 p.m. on Onondaga Lake Parkway in Liverpool. Registration is $39. Nursing Recognition Fund shirt sale is June 22, 27, 28

A shirt sale will be held June 22 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at Community.

The sale will also be held June 27 and 28 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the second-floor lobby of Upstate University Hospital.

Good Neighbor Day at Syracuse Mets is June 28

The Upstate Foundation has partnered with The Cool Head Project for Good Neighbor Day during the Syracuse Mets game June 28 at NBT Bank Stadium. The first pitch will be thrown at 6:30 p.m. and $4 of every ticket sold will be donated to the Cool Head Project Fund. The Cool Head Project can prevent chemotherapy-induced hair loss in cancer patients and is available at Upstate Cancer Center. Help fill the stadium and unlock a matching gift from Northland Communications. Nellie Hurley scholarship applications due by June 30

Advocates for Upstate welcomes eligible Upstate employees and volunteers to apply for Nellie Hurley scholarships for fall semester 2023 to be used towards undergraduate degrees in health-related fields. Applications will be accepted through June 30. Register now for Upstate’s mobile mammography unit on-site event 

Upstate’s mobile mammography unit will offer mammograms July 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the CAB for members of the Upstate community who register in advance. NY state employees get 4 hours of cancer screening time per year. This time can be used for breast cancer screening at the mobile van. If you have questions about this benefit, check with your manager for more information.   • 7 Minutes of Moving is June 21 at noon. Join PTW for a gentle step routine easily performed from a seated or standing position. 
  • Understanding Credit is June 22 at noon for 20 minutes. A speaker from www.RethinkingDebt.org will dive into credit reports and scores, which are essential for anyone looking to borrow money or make a big purchase. 
  • Monday Mile Walk is June 26 at noon at Upstate Community Hospital beginning in the main entrance by the gift shop. The walk with Beth Sellers will be held rain or shine. 
  • Mindful Leader Micro Meditation is June 27 at noon for 5 minutes. This session will focus on hands with a brief meditation. 
  • Paying off Debt is June 29 at noon for 20 minutes. A speaker from www.RethinkingDebt.org will cover managing debt, which is a crucial skill for anyone looking to achieve financial stability.

Weight loss study seeks participants

Upstate’s Endocrine Research Team seeks overweight and obese adults with type 2 diabetes that are treated with oral medications only for a weight loss study. Participants will receive education and support in addition to investigational weight loss medication or placebo. Compensation for volunteer’s time will be provided.
